When Tom Hiddleston wants to get some respect, he does get it.
He gets it by asking it gently, patiently and firmly… with a smile.
I have a theory about Tom. He’s super polite, yes. Apologizes for everything, you bet. But he’s also the alpha male (only son in his family). You can see that manifest in little ways—like this moment. Like when he adjusts the microphone for Emma Watson or Helen Mirren. It’s sweet, but there’s an element of “I’m going to take care of this whether you think it’s a problem or not” to it.
There’s a personality thing that I’ve done recently (with my husband) which has 4 “countries”: Control, Perfect, Peace, and Fun. My husband tested Control (take charge, get it done people) with an adopted country of Perfect (creative, innovative, and detail-oriented). But he also scored high with Peace (the nice folks, the peace-makers) and Fun (the party people). My husband is very charismatic, loads of fun, super nice and considerate. But when push comes to shove (usually at work) or when something needs doing, he’ll become a total Alpha without any qualms. He’d still be utterly nice, but he’s not a pushover.
I honestly believe that Tom is rather balanced like that too. He’s incredibly relatable for most people. And because he’s balanced, his Alpha tendencies don’t rub people the wrong way. Because he’s balanced, he’s not actually nice to a fault (like I’ve read way too many times in Tomfic). He strikes me as a person who, when he decides he wants something, he’ll go for it—no hesitation. He makes sure not to step on anyone’s toes while going after his goals, but he’s sure as hell going to accomplish them.
/random Tom thoughts
I love everything about this, the gifs and the meta thoughts. I love how succinctly he takes control of the situation. Where is this personality thingum, if I may ask? :)
